I had come across another Cami Research M3U this one with the M3A SEX Expansion for a total of 280 test points and Just had to snag it.

This ebay seller had really poor packing… Seller Sent via UPS sure post. Since USPS does final delivery it was amazing it was not delivered with postage due using a large flat rate box it has happened before.

Here is the Unboxing.

Amazing the only thing broken was a switch. Here is the Self Test Video.

I When checking the about page I noticed that it had a Firmware Version 1.23

When I Opened the unit for a cleaning of the metal chips and to preform a firmware backup. I noticed that the MCU was different. This Cami Research M3U had a C8051F342. The other 3 M3U’s have a C8051F320.

The C8051F342 has 64KB Flash @ 50mhz 4.25kb ram and and the C8051F320 only has 16KB @ 25mhx 2.25KB Ram

I checked the device list on my go-to programmer, the Xeltek IS01, looking for the C8051F342. I prefer the IS01 for its simplicity, but unfortunately, it didn’t support the C8051F342. While I found that this device was supported on the Xeltek SuperPro 7500 for off-board programming, I needed an alternative in system solution to keep it simple. I checked the Segger Flasher Pro, and luckily, it supported the C8051F342. Lately, I’ve been using my Segger Flasher Pro and Flasher Portable Plus programmers much more, as Xeltek seems to lag behind in adding support for newer devices and in-system programming updates. I haven’t tried any of the Silicon Labs programmers yet, though.

Segger provided the standard Silicon Labs programming header pinout on their Silicon Labs C2 adapter page, confirming my pinout was mostly correct. However, pin 10 is not connected on the Cami Research M3U programming header. I might start using the Segger database more often when checking header configurations to save some time. For the M3U, pin 1 of the programming header supplies 3.3V, which can be used for VTref, but when using the Segger, the M3U itself will need to be powered up.

When I have time will backup the firmware with the Segger Flasher Pro or Flasher Portable Plus. Lets hope the device is not read protected.

Here is the Cami Research Cableeye M3U (FPX) Opened Up. These are easy targets for backup.

Video…

Backup was Successful with both the Flasher Pro and Flasher Portable Plus File Verified.

The Segger Flasher gives a Motorola S Record File.

I loaded Up the C8051F342 in the Superpro 7500 Software to do a quick Motorola conversion it looks like good data can see the serial #’s
